Rhode Island brand ambassador Jacques Blaauw has successfully made it through the first stage of the Web.com Tour qualifying school.

Jacques Blaauw carded rounds of 68-69-69-72 to finish on a four round total of 278 (10 under) and in a share of 6th. Thirty-two players and ties made it through the first stage from the Woodlands in Texas and that qualifying total was at 286 (-2) so Jacques Blaauw cruised through comfortably.

Obviously it does get more difficult as the stages progress, but with the form that Jacques Blaauw is in both he and Rhode Island are confident in him being successful. With three 2nd place finishes and seven Top 10’s so far this season on the Sunshine Tour the results speak for themselves.

The Web.com qualifying school second stage is scheduled for the 11th – 14th November 2014 and Jacques Blaauw will most likely be hoping for a similar location in Texas after his first showing. “The Web.com Tour qualifying school is similar to most others and you have to enter and play your way through,” he said.

“Unfortunately I have to get through all three stages and I’m headed across for the first stage now. It runs from the seventh to the 10th of October and I’ll come back after that. I can’t stay because I need to come back and play for the Chase to the Investec Cup, so I’ll travel back after first stage and play some tournaments here.”

It is grueling no doubt, but the reward is great and can open the door for potentially a PGA Tour card a year later for Jacques Blaauw.

“I’ve watched guys like Tyrone van Aswegen and Richard Sterne play their way onto the PGA Tour through that route. The way they did it was to get into the Web.com Tour Finals and then make the top 50.”

Rhode Island & Global Golf wish Jacques Blaauw everything of the best in the next two stages!
